Pioneers of Design Education, Kickoff: Friday May 21, 2021

Lab

Detailed research on the history of German Schools of Decorative Arts in the long 19th century is long overdue. Therefore, the Museum of Decorative Arts of the Dresden State Art Collection is initiating a locally, regionally, nationally and transnationally oriented network. The project aims to examine both individual institutions and overarching aspects such as periods of development, reform efforts, networks, teaching methods and collection concepts. In addition to a longlasting scientific exchange, the intention is to provide an overview publication on the German Schools of Decorative Arts up to 1920. In this compendium, their importance for the vocational training in art and craft will be for the first time comprehensively presented in the interdisciplinary field between art, economy and politics.

A kickoff event on May 21, 2021 marks the start of the network cooperation and will present the topic to a broader public. The basic contents for the emerging network project will be outlined, opportunities for personal networking offered and pivotal questions discussed. Brief introductory presentations, a workshop section and a look at the reference collection from the former Dresden School of Decorative Arts are scheduled.

The kickoff will take place online via Zoom, the conference language is German.

Please register for the event by May 20th.
